What is Server cluster?
  • Server Clustering is a process in which a collection of servers, represented as nodes can communicate in- between to make a set of services that ensure high availability to the clients.When failure occurs on one computer system in a cluster arrangement, the computing resources are then redirected and the workload is redistributed to another computer in that cluster. This technique is designed for such applications that have long-going in- memory state or frequently updated data. The application of server clusters includes file servers, database servers, print servers, and messaging servers.

What does a cluster do?
  • A cluster gives a client the power or ability to assign resources to their application or website as necessary. This flexibility allows greater ease of resource allocation and more control over how those resources are used. If a burst of traffic is anticipated,as then it’s relatively easy to add a new server to the web front-end when the cluster topology is already in place, as opposed to starting the restructuring from scratch.

What are the types of clusters?

What is the Host cluster?
  • A cluster host is a host machine that is able to support the various guest operating systems on another physical machine. So, when a physical machine goes down for maintenance or reboot, the cluster host should be configured in a manner that would allow it to support all of the original server's guest operating systems. A host cluster is a set of servers with an aim of web hosting. There are many types of cluster configurations, but the most common is a dedicated database server paired with one or many web servers, which handle serving websites.
